The game can be played on your mobile in it's current state, but it is not recommended for quick games for obvious reasons. There is a long term goal for it to me more friendly for mobile devices, but this would be some time after the browser version has been polished and the map editor is fully functional.
However it works reasonably well for casual games.

If you cant wall every city every turn you cant really compete against a competent player on pc. This mobile narrative people are pushing will only cause aw to devulge further into a rush meta, simplifying atwar far to much. Im not anti phone i just think aw needs to focus on its core player base, and when that is properly developed then make a mobile port with its own seperate servers.

The best workaround right now is to just use a mobile compatiable mouse, not ideal but still posssible.
