The speed of naval and air units is stupid slow, attacking across the ocean, particularly the pacific is almost pointless on a 50 turn game. A warship can circumnavigate Australia in a week, and travel from san diego to the persian gulf in two and airforce bombers can hit anywhere in the world and return home in 36 hours.

So in order to deal with the sillyness of aircraft that travel only slightly faster than tanks i have two suggestions.

1. Make them faster with more upkeep, this will prevent massing of huge fleets/airforces.

2. Have a game option "realistic speeds" or something where players can if they choose increase the speed of naval and air units to something more useful.

The problem with this is if you dont have a huge fleet, its pointless to sail from US to Japan/europe or vice versa since their huge defensive stacks will just crush you.

Someone else mentioned just giving a +2 movement bonus to units out in the open sea to speed things up. But its possible they dont consider it a problem at all.

How about +2 movement (upgrade) to planes and ships when departing from a city but normal movement departing in the middle of a journey. However having such movement (as op describes) on ships and planes would give a great advantage to island nations like Japan, Great Britain, and Cuba and the East Indies.

You could always add an aircraft carrier and not alow planes to end there turn over water but in return give them a better move. As well as giving ships a better move.

Another idea, for boats particularly, a 'full sail' option.
A big plus to movement but a massive hit to defence and offence and vision.
You can go fast, but you run blind and defenceless to do it.

The normal movement, to me, represents a fleet moving as in hostile waters. Mine sweepers clearing the way, carriers launching patrols for subs and aircraft. If your in waters you think are safe you can go MUCH faster. But if your attacked in this mode, your fleet will be devastated.

Quote from a different poll:

"For the world map or pacific map they are defenitly nessesary... but they must be reduced to the big oceans...
another possibility to solve this problem would be to create a new strategy... likewise to blitzkrieg but just focusing on transport movement...
something like -2movement range to all non transport units exept air units and +3movement range to transport units
or there can be an upgrade increasing the range +1 (or 0.5) per movement oversea. It would be set back at the coast...
or what about having a deep water range and a coastal range... that would limit the range for smaller seas but oceans would "shrunk"

thinking about this the same could be done with airplanes using the jetstream...
and to make it fair using these advantages if chosen will decrease the defence... "
