I found this interview between HG Wells and Stalin taken in 1930s quite a bit interesting.

I've always considered Stalin to be brilliant in many ways ... but tyrants usually need not suffer critics, especially so far into their career of tyranny.
It is too bad we will never know how much of this was a skilled interpreter and how much of this was Iosef, unbridled.
