What are bombers for?

Hello. Fairly noobish player here, asking just for what bombers should be used for. I like playing with both Relentless Attack and Perfect Defense, depending on my mood. All I really use them for currently is destroying transports and using the massive range for panic scramble counterattacks.

Population bombing to reduce enemy income doesn't really seem to work very well.

To get a force of blitzing bombers early in the game is too expensive, and I don't see the point of doing so later when I could spend the same amount of money spamming tanks and infantry. I may be missing something, but that's what has happened to me

I have tried bombing cities before taking them, but it again seems like a waste of time.

I have tried using them for cheap scouting, but sentry planes have a vision range large enough that bombers don't seem to be worth it.

What am I doing wrong?

Bombers give you a long range, a strong attack and a decent defense. Bombers are best used for crossing large bodies of water (Oceans) because they actually have defense, while tanks being put on air transports have extremely minimal defense until you actually land somewhere. Bombers are also good if you want to go long range and don't want to have to buy air transports for every three tanks.

Bombers are for playing sky menace and breaking long distance walls

So mostly just attacking far-away things? Thanks. Would airtrans+bombers be good for harassment?
