Player of the month: October

We (moderators and admins) will give out a 'Player of the year' award (Medal) at the end of this year. Every player can get candidate for this medal by being a player of the month (check for more information about how to be 'player of the month', here).


Although October didn't end yet, we already have the player of the month; for making the first quality map on alpha (based on GoT), bug reporting and nice suggestions.

Congrats Pulse. Great scenario too!

Now to play deviL's devil's advocate; I don't mean to say Pulse didn't deserve it, but given the list of reasons for the award, Pulse in comparison falls rather... flat. When it comes to bug fixing and suggestions, soooo many other players have spent a heck of a lot of time in the bugs forum and the suggestions forum, namely avatar, Puzzles, Gardevoir, ezzatam, Cthulhu, utahrapter3, Acquiesce, etc. I'm not sure how you singled out Pulse's suggestions and bug reports from the rest.

And with alpha scenarios, his map, although awesome, isn't the first quality map in alpha- it's simply the first good map recognised by the admins. Other scenario creators have spent tons of work to make great maps, including ezzatam, Puzzles, Stomach Ulcers, Gardevoir, utahrapter3, avatar (sorta), and countless others that just aren't picked up by the community.

I suppose the overarching question is: how did you single out Pulse from the rest of the community by your criteria? And even then, are all of the criteria based on custom maps alpha? We also have the normal ideas and bugs forums, which people still actively contribute to, and considering the last two choices were partly based on Afterwind news, we have the AT reporters.

First of all: Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just posting, but that doesn't mean i'm the only one 'selecting' players of the month.

2: If you look back on the previous 'player of the month' posts, you can see that people always complain, it doesn't matter who we choose. LDK was bad, avatar got trolled, and some did even not agree on you getting the player of the month. There is no way we can pick someone everyone will agree on. You can complain about it, or you can just be sportive and congratulate the winner.

3: Yes, some players might report more bugs, and others did better suggestions. If you would like a other player of the month; we are always open for suggestions. You just post 10 players who did something, but who of those would be player of the month if you could choose? And why is it better for this month then someone else? For example, why do you think 'utahrapter3' deserves it more then Pulse?

Then on your questions: We look everywhere on AW, not only in the alpha. You and LDK did news reporting, avatar did bug reporting and Pulse did a lot for alpha. The fact that Pulse is awarded for something else then the other 3 current winners, is confirming this statement.

Really, great achievement. I think maybe the next one should be looked on who does a lot more forum thread reporting, helping out a lot more low levelled ranks with nice looking tutorials and although this may happen in clan's it would be nice to use the "Game strategy and tips" to its proper use, to Bestow your wisdom upon the less fortunate ones. Stuff like that would help out and would really earn up the achievement. People that have dedicated their time to produce tutorials and screenshots or those that have spent their time advertising Afterwind all over the globe. Those people deserve it more. Not saying Pulse was a bad choice, any one that has got this achievement, I believe have truly done good. But for future references, we should be looking out towards the ones that have gone the extra mile. Overall nice choice.

I think maybe the next one should be looked on who does a lot more forum thread reporting, helping out a lot more low levelled ranks with nice looking tutorials and although this may happen in clan's it would be nice to use the "Game strategy and tips" to its proper use, to Bestow your wisdom upon the less fortunate ones.

For example a guy that would constantly report useless threads such as:

Best SP Farming Methods.

Also I found that in the same "Game Strategy and Tips" forum. Come on... What use is that exactly to younger ranks or those that want to learn something new?

I wasn't saying you shouldn't have given it to Pulse, simply questioning how you single players out from the many many choices. Personally, had he not already gotten it, I'd have given it to avatar. Based on the above criteria, I'd look at Puzzles and Gardevoir (though this would get a TON of backlash), and from outside of alpha, definitely Safari for the tournament and general helpfulness. Or if that's not allowed, Cthulhu has done quite a bit of strategy discussion and has helped out with alpha. To answer your question, based on scenario making, utahrapter has made a huge number of scenarios in both the main game and alpha that are generally overlooked by the pro community mostly because he's rank 6 and most of his players are low rank. I do see him as a possible candidate for player of the month.

I'm not trying to complain too hard, and I apologise if my post sounded too complain...y. I am in no way trying to denounce Pulse, as his contributions are clear to me. Just trying to gain some insight into the process and work with you guys here, as sometimes the choices for POTM and the reasoning for them puzzle me Even my award surprised me- ANN was up for half a week, getting more popularity than I expected. I had expected that award to be given to someone who was active and helpful for more than one week, and who had actually done more than news and suggestions (I have no suggestions, considering I wasn't even on AW for half of August).

Basically what I'm trying to say is sometimes the choices seem to come from nowhere, and we have little background as to how they were picked. Would it be possible to open a thread for constructive suggestions on future POTMs? This way, the community would have more insight on who's being considered, and the mods would have a wide range of possibilities to consider, outside of what is noticed by the mods and admins.

And as I said before, congrats Pulse. Well done on getting POTM.

lol Math. If you want insight into the intricate and intensive process that involves choosing the player of the month just imagine a room full of dudes who need to make a decision before a deadline. Remember, it's only meant to be a little award for those good deeds that usually go unacknowledged.

Ah, but you see, I was banned unfairly for three weeks, and it was totally their fault, not my decision. Based on that, my record is probably the dirtiest among the actual POTMs. So I'm the Most Banned of the Players of the Months. Take that, LilD.

Meanwhile you guys are bickering about "Player of the Month", I have nearly finished my 6th map already... Mathdino, I am glad that you mentioned my contributions but tbh, I will never make it since I am a bad player and only got premium to make maps (I literally bought it the day after alpha release)

Congrats Pulse i hope in future when sameone got this award other players will not post negative comments.
Mathdino pulse deserve this award he make very quallity map,also he give nice suggestions.
Point of this award is to motivation other players to became more active and hellpfuly to proposse more ideas and sugestions,report bugs,help other players in forum,now creating better map then Pulse ,i must try to make better and more quallity map then pulse heheh
