not really tho.all religions are opinions,if you want to add them to a debate with theories that scientists come up with,you have to make them theories.Theories have a basis in forms of evidence and that makes them theories.They still need to be prooven though to become fact.But even as theories they cannot be even compared to some nonsense where the only form of evidence are some ancient books writen by who the hell knows and where theese very books acceptance by people was acompanied by death and torture.No not supspicious at all.

Unlike the majority of people, I admit my mistakes. I even made one in the previous post, I meant the two big religions, the third one (catholicism) actually being a subset of christianity. I can't say all of them are lies because I haven't studied them all, and I can't even have disdain for something like Buddhism for example. In fact, I will admit right now, I was wrong. Buddhism is founded on the teachings of Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama). Awakening, Enlightenment and awareness are very real and they are what Buddha preached, so therefore I cannot say all religions are based on lies. And it's what Jesus also meant all along, but they got misinterpreted, misused, and then we have what I've been saying all along, religion used for mass control etc. So, I will rephrase: Christianity and all of its subcategories or whatever they are called, together with islam, are manufactured lies, designed to scare and control primitive people. No rational human being in the 21st century should fall for such bullshit. Thx.

Well, it depends. For (fill in the blank religionists who believe in a particular religion), it isn't an opinion. It is a fact. Ask an uneducated-but-sincere muslim/christian/hindu if their religion is an 'opinion' - most would vehemently disagree. Ask an educated-and-sincere muslim/christian/hindu if their religion is an 'opinion' - most would answer in the form of 'no, but ...' I was simply stating that Unleashed can't be making claims about *all religions* being 'manufactured lies, and still be credible as one who speaks rationally. Even someone who believes there is no god, who thinks *most religions* are manufactured lies, they would have to grant the possibility that before the Age of Enlightenment, some religions were sincere mistakes. I wasn't making a claim about any particular religion, or religion at all, in this case.

I don't doubt that you believe this to be the case for Islam and Christianity, but I am skeptical of any argument whose conclusions are justified by ad hoc retainment of an unreasoned assertion. Consider: Person A: "No Rational Human being in the 21st century is a Muslim or Christian." Person B: "I am rational, and I am a Muslim." I know plenty of people that I consider rational that believe the following: - There are 'unalienable' human rights. Life, liberty, property are but a few. - All people are of equal moral worth. - No person is superior to another, solely because of race/creed/color/sex/gender. - People deserve the truth. They provide no rational basis for their claims, and, when pushed, can provide no convincing evidence or argument. They can provide arguments why the above claims are 'God-given' or 'pragmatically useful' or 'self-evident' but the best of the arguments aren't based on evidence, only on some form of utilitarian game-theory (the Veil of Ignorance). Some of the people who believe these propositions are leaders! Just because these beliefs have no rational basis, and there is strong evidence that these beliefs are false, I don't think the people who believe these things are Not Rational just because they believe in these propositions.

Plenty of people who believe in human freedom can solve equations, some people who believe in Heaven can write program code. Claiming the Rational High Ground, and not fighting from it is morally bankrupting. A proposition can have both true premises and a true conclusion but be logically invalid. Interesting you should mention 'evidence'. I agree (and it's a basic rule of grown-up debate) that one making a claim, especially claims that are unusually divergent from the consensus, is responsible for substantiation. I disagree about the 'truth' part though. Laws, religion and philosophy have 'truth'. In the case of laws, truth is the result of a process or decision. For religion, truth IS. For philosophy truth either exists, exists in a weak sense, exists but is unknowable to man, or does not exist at all. Science has no truths, except in the weakest sense. - 'Evolution is truth' (no, it's a theory) - The subject weighed 11 kilos (that's a 'truth' because it is a falsifiable proposition that can be tested, and if the scale was off, the truth would change). A lot of people believe in God. A lot of people believe in Evolution as the origin of Species. A lot of people believe in Global Climate Change.
