DONT protect your capitol whole game with 1-3 Militia. Even you are successful in someone might stealth rush in and keep it captured for 2 turns.

2: never transport tanks or infantery with boats if they dont have bombers around them.
3: never expect that if you are france, turkey will not take italie between the first and the second turn.

most players know this all, but still.
